Specifying Sequin Decoration for Cotton Tote Bags

A sparkling logo might be print, foil or separate sequins. Identify the actual pieces and review their arrangement while the complete tote is carried and folded.

Two-tone tote bag with a cream front panel and navy handles and base

A silver-looking logo on a photograph could be ink, foil or hundreds of separate sequins. Those proposals may share a colour, but they do not create the same surface on a bag. Before asking for a price, decide which one the design actually requires.

Sequin decoration on cotton tote bags needs an identified component and an arrangement worth reviewing on the complete tote. A museum shop might want sparkling lettering; a retailer might want a narrow decorative strip. Describe that particular result rather than ordering a generic shiny finish.

Start with the pieces that make the motif

A sequin component reference should identify the proposed material, shape, dimensions in millimetres, colour and visible finish. Keep a physical example where possible. A photograph can locate the effect, but it cannot show every face or edge of a small component.

Tajima’s sequin options illustrate why the actual pieces matter: different devices support different sizes and shapes, and availability depends on the machine model. That is a reason to ask the proposed provider about compatibility, not to assume Gahumi has a particular attachment or can reproduce every catalogue effect.

Can a metallic print sample approve sequin decoration? No. It can help explain the desired colour or sparkle, but it does not approve separate components or their attachment. Use the metallic print guide if an ink or foil proposal is actually the preferred route.

Decide how the decorated area reaches the bag

Ask whether the proposal is direct sequin work or a separate patch. The Barnes Foundation’s own tote listing describes purple cotton canvas with a sequin embroidered patch. It is a real example of the separate-component approach, not a design to copy or evidence of Gahumi sourcing.

Mark the motif boundary on the bag drawing and show the intended sequin layout direction. If an arrangement has a directional face, review that direction while the panel hangs naturally. Do not infer a reversible, two-colour effect merely because a reference photograph looks different under another light.

For a separate component, agree its own construction before discussing attachment. The sewn-patch guide covers the distinct question of positioning a component and identifying its sewing route. Here, the added decision is the exposed sequin surface.

Walk the motif through an ordinary carry

Identify the sequin contact areas on a tote. Put representative contents inside, pick it up and let it rest against the clothing normally worn for that use. Fold the empty bag in the proposed packing arrangement too.

Look for places where a hand, sleeve, neighbouring strap or packed item meets the decorated area. Record an observed catch, raised edge or loose piece with its location. The provider should explain how the proposed construction will be reviewed; a neat front photograph does not establish secure attachment.

Agree any required retention, rubbing or finished-care assessment before approval. Do not turn a quick handling trial into a laboratory result or invent an acceptable number of detached pieces. If the motif creates an unresolved problem, a smaller area or a different decoration may be a more useful proposal.

Keep the composition and accepted sample together

Does a cotton tote make its sequins cotton? No. Record the body, decorative pieces, thread, backing and any adhesive within their confirmed scopes. A cotton body does not make the complete decorated bag biodegradable or environmentally preferable.

Keep the accepted component, layout, attached sample and care decision together. Send Gahumi those references with the bag specification, quantities and destination, and ask whether the arrangement can be developed and quoted. The accompanying photograph shows a general tote exterior, not a sequin sample.
