BUYER GUIDE

Checking Printing Access on a Finished Cotton Tote

Map the usable decoration access on a sewn cotton tote, compare assembly stages and check that pockets, zips and other layers remain as intended.

Two-tone tote bag with a cream front panel and navy handles and base

The logo fits between the straps on the drawing. The sewn sample introduces a different question: can the proposed equipment reach that panel without a pocket, zip or second fabric layer getting in the way?

Cotton tote decoration access should be checked before the visible layout becomes a production commitment. The buyer needs a map of workable locations on the actual construction, not just a rectangle showing where the graphic looks attractive.

Put the sewn bag in the discussion

Show the opening, handles, gusset, pocket and closure in the sample or construction drawing. Identify which layer should receive the decoration and which must remain unaffected. A front pocket can be intended as the printed surface, an obstruction behind it or a separate component that must stay usable.

STAHLS recommends loading each proposed bag when assessing heat-printing locations and looking for seams, buttons and zips. That illustrates an access issue. It does not establish that a particular Gahumi bag fits a named press or that a printing accessory resolves every construction.

For heat transfer access, ask the printing team to assess the support beneath the complete design and nearby raised features. Leave the equipment and application solution to that team. The buyer’s job is to explain the finished result, not prescribe a platen from an unrelated demonstration.

Choose the assembly stage deliberately

Can a cotton tote be decorated after sewing? The supplier needs to assess the actual bag and method. If access is restricted, request two proposals where feasible: decorate the finished bag, or decorate an identified panel before assembly. Neither route should be assumed to be available.

Compare what each proposal requires the buyer to approve. With a finished-bag route, inspect the real loading position. With a panel route, check the completed sewn sample as well, including the decoration’s relationship to finished seams. An accepted loose panel does not settle its eventual position.

The artwork placement record remains the reference for dimensions. Add an access sketch showing the intended fabric layer, obstructions and proposed operation stage, rather than changing the layout informally at the machine.

A pocket example makes the decision tangible

Suppose a retail tote has a front pocket and the mark sits on that pocket. Ask whether the proposed operation can be completed without bonding or stitching the pocket shut. Open it on the completed sample and put in the representative item it is meant to hold. Record the result, including any unintended effect inside.

What if the proposed location cannot be reached? Ask whether moving the design, changing the pocket sequence or revising the construction is feasible. Compare the new sample and quotation before choosing. This is not permission to remove a useful pocket merely because decoration would be easier.

Approve access and appearance together

Keep the access sketch, process proposal and assembled sample under one reference. If the supplier changes the sequence, ask which checks need repeating. Inspect the whole panel, but keep any heat-mark appearance investigation separate from the question of physical access.

Confirm the specified cotton body independently from decoration and trims. A workable location does not prove composition, certification or environmental superiority. For planned reuse, preserve the bag’s intended opening, pocket function and supported care arrangements.

Send Gahumi the construction views, required location, artwork size and quantities. Ask for a feasible decoration sequence and sample quotation, identifying any construction change before it is accepted.
